Are there decorating trends other than "farmhouse"?
We are building a new home on our farm, and I was originally going to decorate with the industrial farmhouse and farmhouse chic looks....HOWEVER, that trend is taking over! I have seen it so much in the past few months that I really don't even like it anymore, and now I don't want anything "farmhouse" in our new farmhouse. Does anyone have an alternative decorating style or ideas/projects other than "farmhouse" for a farmhouse...LOL! The new house is small (under 2000 sq ft) with an open living/kitchen/dining concept.

That being said, here are some current ideas!https://www.housebeautiful.com/uk/decorate/kitchen/news/g423/best-kitchen-design-trends/https://www.countryliving.com/home-design/decorating-ideas/g3988/kitchen-trends/https://www.bhg.com/kitchen/remodeling/planning/timeless-kitchen-trends/HelpfulReply
- Amy Ogden-Paparoneon Apr 26, 2018Hi Debbie,I'm with you, I can't stand the "in styles" when they flood us with pictures and things we should do, so much that it's almost to the point of brain washing. If I were you and had the chance to decorate a brand new farm house, I'd take my time and besides beds and couches, decorate it slowly and with pieces I Loved! Pick pieces that make you happy when you look at them, and serve a purpose. Today people seem to buy the "in" things yet they don't fit with their life style. I believe every home should be decorated to make life easier and happier. When all is done, it will truly be your happy place.HelpfulReply

- Lisa S.on Apr 26, 2018You are going to live with this home, long after the trends have changed. Look at some pictures in books/ magazines. Go to some open houses in your community. Then build from whatever makes you feel good. You can always change up curtains, pillows, towels and such - but many things you are going to have to live with for a long time. Unless you are building to "flip" - pick what YOU LOVE. Colors and style....HelpfulReply
- Nan W.on Apr 26, 2018Yes! The best "trend" is YOU. Pick items YOU love (and I mean love --- just not space-fillers!) and start to layer your nest. Get neutral, simple furniture and then you'll always have a background for your changing creativity!HelpfulReply
