What is the best grass to plant under a tree?

I live in Carrollton Texas and the tree covers most of my front lawn. I am looking for suggestions that are drought friendly if possible. Thanks for any help!

Grass will not grow under a large tree, as you have observed. Your best choice is to find other plants that will grow there:

You should check with the nursery where you will buy the plants for a recommendation of what they have that will grow well in your area using the list provided on the site as a general guideline.
there is grass seed for shaded areas but u will need to water it.
I know the very thing. Artificial Grass - I have it for my front lawn and it always looks good and very little maintenance..... No real grass will grown in shade for long.
Anytime I move, one of my first visits is to my local co-op. They can direct you to specialists that know native plants for your specific area and growing condition. I also have them test my soil and 'prescribe' specific additives for what I am growing in that soil.
