I saw an unusual planter on Pinterest made from a wig form- you know those white styrofoam heads you can find at Hobby Stores. I loved what she did with hers but I had ideas to change it a bit plus I knew I needed to get started as I was making it for my sister who lives in another state. We’ll be traveling there over a long Mother’s Day weekend so I had to get going making it!
So I began with this form that I got on Amazon. But I wanted her eyes open, I wanted prominent brows, some definition to her neck and some ears! But first because she is going to be a planter I needed to cut the top of her head off and scoop it out. This makes a huge mess ! I had to do mine in the House because of weather so I had the vacuum nearby.
Scooped out
So once scooped I took my Sugru, this unique clay that hardens to a permanent state and created her eyelids and ears , eyebrows and neck muscles.
With ears and etc
I am not a sculptor but I looked online for ears, lids and so on and fashioned them from pictures. Once the Sugru is hardened I sprayed 2 coats of a styrofoam primer and let it dry before spraying 2 coats of Rustoleum texture in Caribbean Sand to give it a stone look. Now I have to draw her eyes and put her makeup on!
A used a very fine permanent Sharpie to draw in her eyes and lashes again using an online guide of how to draw eyes! Her eyes, lips and brows were painted with acrylic paint.
Getting a makeover
For her blush I dry brushed an acrylic metallic rose gold to her cheeks. Then I glued on false eyelashes!
I went into my stash of broken and odd piece jewelry collection and also found sunglasses at Dollar Tree. The original I first saw of this had her sitting on a wine bottle but I only had the blue bottle of a bud light.
Filling it with tiny shells collected over the years to give it weight I then fit the head onto the bottle. There is a hole on the bottom of the wig stand to do this. In fact when scooping be sure to scoop til you reach this hole as this becomes the drain hole.
All dolled up
I then added some spagnum moss around her cut out and down her side of her face so looked like she came from the woods wearing one earring and a matching necklace to her bottle!
Almost ready
Added some flowers and
Sunglasses for a completed look ! That’s why I gave her ears. But I actually love her best without the glasses.
To finish it all off I sprayed her with a coat of weatherproofing used for outside cushions as I know she’ll be out on my sisters porch. I’ll let you know what my sister names her!!
side note- my total cost is based on the amount of each item I used, not total purchase price. And yes you may find the wig form and other items less expensive elsewhere but I couldn’t find MagicKote anywhere but Amazon.
Planted!
So I planted a Chinese money plant and I really like how she looks!
I might even make one for myself!
