Suggestions for making this into an outdoor solar light?

You could put solar lights in each of the candles. As long as it's never going to be used as a wired light, no worries about the wiring.

I would shop the dollar store for walkway solar lights and put one on each light fixture ( the ground stick may even slide over the "candle" part

Great idea! Yes it will work. I personally prefer the metal and glass solar lights only because they last longer where I live. The plastic ones look terrible after a couple of weeks - sun is brutal!

i would simple remove all the electrical parts and add the solar lights into the spaces they were removed from.

We did this with a light fixture I picked up at Goodwill for $5... My husband pulled out all of the electrical components and wiring...then we cut the ground stakes to fit the "candle" part (just below the battery)... then used a clear RTV (auto parts stores) to secure them in the socket.. we used the RTV because it would stand up to our sun and heat here in AZ. The solar pathway lights were from Walmart and cost a little more than the $.97 ones... they lasted about 2 years and we replaced them this year.
