Is it possible to use wood stain on a Latex painted wall?

I would like an accent wall to appear as close to a true wood color as possible. The original paint color is a brown/green color. Can I wipe on/wipe off to change it closer to a mahogany color with wood stain?

You could try a small area to see if it works. It will be very smelly and take a long time to dry. I think you would have to put a clear sealer over it so that it could be washed.

Thank you. I thought about dry time after I posted and realized that the stain might soften the latex and make it slough off the wall. Now that would be a fun mess...not! :)

I have used stain over some painted DIY projects to "age" things. It worked and didn't seem to affect the paint. However--that was on very small projects and not on a wall.

Hello Fuzzy bottom, hope this helps you out, you can actually get a tool to use with the stain to give it a wood look!
