Anything stringy, like banana peals or celery, silverware, even plastic. I always check to see that nothing weird went down the disposal before I run it. Many things can fit in the disposal that you can't see. If the pieces are too big, they may not grind up, just go around until the are worn down if they can get into the blades.

I got rid of mine years ago because it was so much trouble. I followed all the rules & it still backed up, no matter what I did or didn't put down the stupid thing. It was more trouble than it was worse.
