Where do I start, lol...As usual I picked up a dresser for free and was just happy because I felt like ”free” , how could I go wrong? I will tell you this, it must have had 8 layers of goopy black paint all over it, but it was solid wood.
I started sanding and found out it had veneer and veneer damage. I would have to remove all that veneer to be able to stain it. See that horrid black paint!
The easiest way I have found to remove veneer is a wet towel and an old iron. I wet the towel pretty well, leaving it soggy wet. I then lay the iron on it for a few minute. I remove the iron and towel up a little to another section and while it sits on that I scrape off veneer. Let the piece dry befkre you start sanding.
I painted the sides because they were a mess! I wanted to layer the paint. First layer was Blue.
I make my own chalk paint. I used a brush dipped in water to blend.
Layering
Layering.
I used Espresso Miniwax Stain to do the stained art. I sealed the stained parts with Wipe on poly. And sealed the painted parts with Valspar wax
I Stain shaded...which means the image is hand drawn and stain is used to create the image. I do not use a stencil and only stain is used. I have been wanting to do a horse for sometime. If you look closely you will see I used wire to make the handles.
Final of the side painted.
Oh my!!!! It turned out so beautiful I have to say it is one of my favorite pieces. I feel the colors on the side just ads to the charm of the little girl. The expression of the horse if so noticeable. they look like they really Love each other. I know I love them!
