i think whatever colors that you like & can be the background for your decor! I would recommend staying away from the darker colors which may make your space feel smaller. A light color will keep the space open which may include your lighter grays even! I would recommend something that can be wiped down or washable also!
I would go with a off-white, light beige or pale gray with a satin finish. Satin will better reflect the light and also easy to wipe down if you need to.
Since you have to paint everything, do it once. With a soft background color, you can add color and drama with curtains or rugs or accessories. Fall in love with a colorful rug, be it oriental, rag, or a great modern print. Build your decor around it.
Accessories are often inexpensively replaced, and returnable if you change your mInd.
Stick with neutrals if you're going for whole-house. Gray is a favorite trend of mine and you can find it in hundreds of hues with blue, green, and other undertones.
What colour is your furniture (browns, neutrals, blue tones)? I would look for a light or neutral colour -especially if your furniture is large and dark- that compliments your existing furniture (light blue grey/silver for black or blue toned furniture; taupe or cream for brown tones). If your furniture is predominantly neutral, you may want to add an accent wall in a bold colour with the majority of the walls being more neutral Or go with a deeper hue of a neutral colour (darker grey or taupe with white baseboard and ceiling
Your local DIY store may have a paint mixing machine, they have thousands of colours to choose from or you can take a favourite colour from an ornament or magazine and they can scan it into their computer to find the best match. I always paint my ceilings white and use a neutral colour on three walls with an accent colour on the fourth, this is then easy to change when you get bored with it
How about steel blue?
