a long time. If you want it gone quicker, chip away, get a root router. I assume the tree is dead, so moisture will rot it after a bit.
did you drill holes in the trunk?

drill holes in stumps, fill with ice cream salt and it will help to kill them faster
If you can have the trunk cut closer to the ground drill holes in it and fill with rock salt or Epson salt that will help speed up the process But if you can rent a stump grinder when you stump grinder after you cut the trunk closer to the ground
This natural degrading seems to take forever, find someone to take the stump out.
