  • I can think of several. For a bold look, red, orange, or yellow. A softer look - pink, pale blue, mint green.

Check out ideas on DIYnetwork.com or HGTV.com or Pinterest.com lots of the shows use black cabinets and combine with classic white, gray, blue, pink, green.... black is a neutral after all.

  • Keep the rest of the kitchen light and bright. A black and white kitchen is timeless, add in accent colors by way of textiles, decor and accessories.

Gray is all the rage right now, a light gray would brighten your kitchen. White is also all the rage, but that is with white cabinets, but you might combine them. Then also, a mixed marble look of tan, brown, black, dark brown, and other basic colors mixed together (or even harvest colors!) would accent the beauty of the cabinets. Perhaps one of these would be your choice. A friend of mine had black cabinets and did the rest in bright red! It is what YOU like best and what makes YOU feel good to get up in the morning and relax with your cuppa. It is what YOU want to come home to and feel at home in your kitchen. Do you have a favorite color? Black does go with anything ,so if you are not afraid to avoid the popular and go your own independent way, go with your own favorite color! Hope this helps

Oh my goodness, there are so many choices - white or gray are some neutral colors, if you want more pop you can go with red. Black pretty much matches anything so you have so many options. What color is your favorite?

I, personally am not a fan of grey. I like a little more life in my colors. I would go with something light in color. Like a pale yellow, orange, green, aqua or blue. It really depends on what other colors you're putting in the kitchen. Is this for a backsplash, walls, flooring?

The floor should be installed before the cabinets. What I would do if I were you is to go to a paint store and get a bunch of color cards. Tape them to the walls. Take notice of the colors a different times of day and in different kinds of weather. Eliminate the colors until you have a couple. Then go to the paint store and get sample pints of the paint. Paint them on the walls in both the kitchen and living room. Do the same thing again until you've found the right color for you. Are you doing a backsplash? What colors are in that?

Thank you. Chosing color is definitely not simple, so many varieties of one simple color. I’m thinking aboutthe color Linen at the moment

Linen would be a great choice, lightens & neutral. You could always get a paint sample at your hardware store for a couple bucks and paint a small spot on the wall. Leave it there for a few days and then see how you feel about it. For that matter you could buy a few samples in colors you like and put them all up, and then decide which one is best for you. Good luck!

Well T if you love linen then you have your answer, surround yourself with what you love. So what's holding you back and why are you doubting uoursrlf? Bring your end table into the kitchen and get it as close as you can to your cabinets and see how it looks. But really if you are still not sure just buy a sample of the color and paint it on your walls at different heights as well since light can be from a lamp or a window. If possible consider painting ceiling as well so that it's not a stark contrast to the basic white. Plus it will warm up the place and envelope the black.

Will tv stand and end tables up against the same color not look bad and what color would I paint chair rail? I had planned to paint chair rail the color of Linen after painting LR and kitchen walls. I’m going to have a breakdown over this

I'm sorry I misunderstood, I thought they were painted in linen and I wanted you to see them next to black. If that is the case try it. As for the walls being in the same linen as them, well they won't pop out but it would look cohesive. If you want it to still pop then use the color linen but in a different finish as these pieces. For instance, in my case the same color white was used in my dining room on the walls were baton board was up,but the painter suggested this and just changing finishes, not hues nor shades nothing, just the finish did the job. The boards are in a high gloss, the walls are in a satin or eggshell finish and they look great but you notice the boards which I wanted to highlight. So it may be as simple as using the exact color in a different finish. I realize that you want to not have to redo an entire room,I get it, and paint isn't cheap. But sometimes your gut is right. You love the color, haven't you ever worn black in different pieces top bottom stockings, tights or socks and shoes, are they all exactly the same? Are the textures the same? Probably not unless it's a suit but even then hosiery wouldn't be the same nor your shoes. Did you fell odd? Did it look odd? No. Mixing finishes and textures add not subtract from the beauty. So no breakdown ok. Stress I get, trust me. It's a big project but you went with black cabinets and that takes guts!
