Repainting and antique-ing a kitchen table white with truffle browns.
My ultimate goal is to seal the table such that we don't need coasters or placemats ..
What would seal the table so that water marks don't develop??

Marine or spar urethane is your best bet. More coats are better.

Poly would be the most durable. You could go with out placemats, but not for things like hot dishes and sweating glasses, etc. I have never seen a finish that completely stands up to never using coasters or trivets, especially with hot things. I have my dads mothers claw foot dining table that he refinished over thirty years ago and used multiple coats of poly. The finish is still like new, but I always use a good trivet under hot things and have never had the white marks from wet or hot things. It is also easy to clean with a damp sponge or rag and buffed dry with a soft towel.

i love to use epoxy... it’s so durable and long lasting. It’s very time consuming though. You also have to keep it in a dust free environment while it’s drying.

It will also level any areas if Need be.

It‘ll definitely keep the marks off!

You can put on as much or as little as want and if enough is used you’ll get a glass-like finish( I’ve gotten some to a hard plastic-like finish but never glass)

Polyeurethane will also give you a nice finish I’m not sure about the white marks though. Good Luck!

It is best to use a top coat sealer, thee are many on the market. Be sure to apply with a foam brush following the directions on the can.
