Rid eaves of carpenter bees

Joy
by Joy
These nasty bees come back every year - I have sprayed bee killer into the holes (all 100 of them) then put steel wool inside, then sealed with wood fill. Bought a "wood house" with holes already drilled - so when they enter the hole, they go down into a jar filled with Mountain Dew (sweet soda) and a squirt of dish detergent - only caught about 4. Does anyone have a solution to get rid of these patio-spoilers once and for all time? I'd be ever-so grateful!

My friend hangs paper bags filled with paper or plastic bags to make them look full and ties the tops to fool all wasps, hornets, carpenter bees into thinking it is a paper wasp nest. She says it keeps them all away. Hope this helps.

Hope it works! I know it does for people I know, just put it under a porch roof or eaves so rain does not destroy it.

  • Look up carpenter bees and permachink. For some reason i cant post the link on here, but they sell a product marketed for log homes that really works

      thank you, Rachel...

will go on line to find Permachink. If the paperbag (suggested by Rachel) doesn't work, will buy some. thank you.

is your wood house made of cedar or pine? mine is made of cedar and I don't put anything inside of the jar. also, I put steel wool inside existing holes. I think maybe you don't have cedar wood for the house. I catch almost 100 of these every year.

Honestly, I have only been able to get rid of them a year or two. I buy bee spray. It rained or snowed here in Louisville all winter so this year they came out this spring in numbers. So I will be spraying again.

Do you use any special kind of spray? Over the counter stuff works for a while? What are you using...I'll get some today. Thanks for your suggestion.
