Sharper Image sells a set of these Auto Seat Gap Fillers for $24. If you look around you can find a deal for just under $10. And they give you a choice of black or black. Now you can have any color you like. I'm going to show you how to do it for just over a $1 but more importantly, to do it with "self expression".
On my last project, Jewell Martin asked if I just go to the garage and pick out my supplies. In a way, I do. When I go sale'n every Saturday, I buy most all my craft supplies when I see a deal. This stack of craft foam for example cost me less than $5. Even at the $1 store I would be paying about $20. When I bought the craft foam, I had been inspired by another Hometalker, Gail@Purple Hues and me. Gail uses craft foam in a number of her projects and I found her to be very inspiring.
The craft foam measures 12"x18" so I begin by cutting it in half.
I then use a score line at the 4.5" mark, on both pieces. I use the Cricut scorer, but any number of objects would work, even the back side of a butter knife.
I ran a bead of contact cement along the 9" edges on both sides. I store my contact cement in a small plastic bottle that has a flip top which exposes a small hole. I also use a small plastic strip (cut from an expired credit card to smooth out and insure proper coverage. Press the two ends together after a minute or two.
Time to bling it up. Now this is yet another of my bargain finds - paid $1 for the entire roll, I'm guessing it's about 3 yards.
I used hot glue to adhere the bling on both sides. This was to reinforce the glued edges. You could also use Washi tape although I'm not familiar enough to know if it would hold as well as the hot glue. Another application would be to lace/stitch through it with a cord or leather cord. Here's where your only limit is your imagination. I say go for it! Personally I prefer the wider band, which has 11 rows of bling - 5 on each side and one down the seam.
Placed between the seats, easy to reach leaving the cup holders free to hold drinks. What a concept! This would be an excellent kids projects to make for Mother's Day or Father's Day gifts.
