I recently started finishing our basement. In this video, I'm sharing the process I've been following to add insulation and frame the perimeter walls.

I'm using 2" thick XPS foamboard as insulation. The XPS gets glued to the foundation walls and when installed, will also act as a vapor barrier.

On the basement floor, a pressure treated 2x4 board gets nailed down using a ramset fastener.

The top board then gets installed and the wall studs get installed one at a time.
Step 1: Make sure your vertical fireblock is already installed and prepare the wall for insulation by removing any fasteners like insulation washers

Step 2: Nail down a 2x4 pressure treated board with a ramset.

Step 3: Prep your XPS foamboards by cutting them to
Suggested materials:
  • Pressure Treated 2x4s   (84 Lumber)
  • 2x4 Studs   (84 Lumber)
  • 2" thick XPS foamboard insulation   (84 Lumber)

Thanks. Is it advisable to put on some waterproofing just in case?
