Today I want to share with you some super easy napkin folding ideas to conquer your guests even before the food is on the table!

As a little intro, napkin folding is an art that dates from 17th century. The first manual about napkin folding was published by the German Matthia Gieger that became so well-known at napkin folding that even taught this art at the University of Padua (Italy), where he was living at the time.

According to the difficulty of the fold, here are my 3 choices for napkin folding (from the easiest to the most"difficult"):

KNOTTED NAPKIN + NAME TAG

By Alpha Smoot

Complete this fold within seconds! Just choose a pretty cloth napkin (a paper napkin won't work for this fold) and make a knot in the middle. Place it off-center on the plate as shown in the image above and pair it with a name tag to assign the seat to your guest! Isn't it super cute?

BOW TIE FOLD

By Sugar and Charm

For this idea, you just need your napkin (this time you can use paper or cloth napkins, even though it is better to stick with the cloth ones) and a cute ribbon, tape, twine or napkin ring.

Take your napkin and fold it vertically into a rectangular shape (see picture above) and wrap with the twine/tape/ribbon around the center to create the bow tie shape. Voilà! You are done!

SINGLE POCKET NAPKIN FOLD

By Evermine

Ideal for a fancy gathering, wedding reception or just to blow your guests mind! This single pocket fold allows you to place inside the napkin the course menu, the silverware or a decorative element to match the season, for example, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

In order to achieve this fold, you have to:

  1. Fold the bottom part of the napkin in half on top of the top part to create a rectangle
  2. Fold the top part of the new rectangle down and flip the napkin over
  3. Fold the rectangle in half and bring the right side to the left side of the napkin. Repeat this process one more time
  4. Tie a beautiful ribbon to secure the napkin and add the decorative elements to it!
