What a Ductless Mini Split Will Cost You

I'm always curious to see the cost and behind the scenes on upgrades in houses. Because of this, I thought I'd share why we had a ductless mini split installed, how it was installed and what the all in cost was.
To give you the backstory on this space: Our sunroom is 400 sq feet. It has a metal ceiling that does have insulation but the windows in the room are very cheap. The space gets pretty hot in the summer months and is too cold to be in from late October - February. I moved my office into the sunroom (because it's the perfect space for my office) but knew that I'd have to address the temperature of the room.
After looking around at my options, I decided that going with a ductless mini split was the way to go. I not only wanted my min split to be an air conditioner but I also wanted it to have a heat pump.

I bought the mini split online and went with a 12000 BTU 23.1 Mini split with heat pump. The mini split and line set ran me $1731.
For the mini split, you have to have an off/on 220v electrical line to run outside where the outdoor condenser sits. We needed an electrician to come and run a 220v line to make this work. We paid $350 for the new electrical line.

I know some people would feel comfortable mounting the mini split and finishing the lines off to the outside (where the condenser sits) but we didn't feel comfortable doing this. We had a friend, who is a retired HVAC technician do this for us.

So, with the mini split, electrician and the HVAC install... our total came to $2581. If you want more information or pictures, then make sure to check out my blog post!

I've been using it for a few months now and absolutely love it! So far, in cold weather, it's been absolutely amazing. I haven't had it for a summer season yet, but I just know that it will work great. So, if a mini split is something that you've been thinking about... definitely go for it. I don't think you'll regret it at all.

It's always fun to walk down memory lane. Here's where the space was last year. Right after this, we power washed (yes, we did this inside!) and painted the brick. See the how-to tutorial for this, if you are curious!
