It depends on where you live. Read the article that Chas left for you above, then go to your local plant nursery to see what they keep in stock. Local nurseries will always have plants that grow best in your area. Remember, their object as a business is to make a profit so they should have plants that grow well. Let then know what type of plant you're looking for - ground cover that grows in shady areas - and I'm sure they'll be able to help you. Another option is to contact the Ag Extension Service in your area. They are a government service and also can help you figure what will work best. Wishing you the best.

Creeping thyme! I have it growing in full shade under a tree and it's gorgeous. It grows and spreads quickly too.
