I took a plain cane basket and created a whole new look that is on trend, very French country chic, and an easy peasy update for your Spring home decor.
I started with your average cane basket from a local charity store. You may even have one hiding in your craft stash somewhere.
I applied a grey paint. You can use any furniture & decor paint - I used Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour Soap Stone.
Brush right down into the grooves to try and cover all the golden cane look. You want the grey to be your base.
Allow the paint to dry.
Now that the base coat is done, find any white paint. I used Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour, Champlain. A creamy off white.
Dip the tips of a clean brush into the white colour and offload your brush as much as you can onto a paper towel or newspaper.
This is the key to a "dry brush" technique, as you are using a relatively "dry" brush after offloading most of the paint.
For the dry brush technique to work effectively, what you do is gently drag the almost dry brush across the surface of your grey basket.
The white paint will gently touch the high points of the surface of the basket, creating a white wash effect over the surface.
And there you have it! A gorgeous French country spring basket ready to fill with flowers for your home!
