Want to make a super cute mushroom fairy jar to display in your home? This is a quick and easy project that uses air dry clay, simple tools, and watercolor paint.
I started with a package of Das air dry clay, some Fimo clay modeling tools, a glass jar, and a bowl of water. For the decoration stage, I used watercolor paint and a tube of white acrylic paint. I looked at pictures of mushrooms for inspiration.
I covered the outside of the jar in clay, adding water as needed to make it smoother. I engraved a front door shape using my modelling tools and cut some holes for windows.

I then sculpted a few decorative bricks and a small awning and stuck these on using water.

To create the shape on the lid of the jar, I scrunched tin foil into a basic mushroom shape, glued this to the lid, then stuck clay on top and smoothed into shape.

I then left the clay to harden overnight in a warm place. The length of time your clay takes to harden might vary according to temperature, humidity, and the brand you use.
Once the clay was completely hardened, I used watercolor paints. For the main house I used a light tan color, with dark brown for the doors and bricks.

For the top of the mushroom and the awning, I used red, then applied white dots of acrylic paint.
The finished product was a fun, cheerful mushroom fairy jar. With a tealight inside, light shines out of the windows which are cut into the back of the jar.
Experimenting with different colors, shapes and designs is a fun way to take this project to the next level. Looking at mushroom pictures is a good way to get inspired!
