How long to plant after using vinegar

I'm going to spray some weeds using a vinegar mix with salt and a drop of dish soap. Does anyone know how long I should wait after using this mixture before I plant in that area?

It's not the vinegar that's the issue, it's the salt. If you use too much, the soil will need 7 years. Just use vinegar & soap & the soil will be good again after the next soaking rain (where the ground gets wet 2+"deep).

  • Skip the salt in your weed killer recipe. Over time it can render soil infertile and will need to be removed and replaced. Vinegar is water soluble and unless you used a ton of vinegar you can plant after just a few days. If in ground, dig your hole a bit larger than needed, add fresh soil or good compost material. Then insert your plant.

I just killed off my entire back yard full of crabgrass with vinegar. The gardener dug out with a sod cutter, tilled, prepared ground for new seed. Faster and far less expensive than commercial chemical filled products.

If you use SALT... nothing will grow in that area until all the soil in that area is dug out and completely replaced... it may even kill off mature trees or shrubs... any where the salt leeches into.

the salt will kill the weeds alright.... along with EVERYthing else growing in that area... it may even effect large trees and things that you want to grow there... and you will probably not be able to plant anything else in that area and have it grow

It should be okay to plant after a couple of rains. If it does not rain then hose it down well.

the recipe with the salt is used only for walkways and patios with out other plants involved.

I use 30% vinegar, epsom salt, and dish soap (note magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) in small amounts actual improves the soil) -

    DIY 3 Ingredient Weed Killer

    Ingredients
    • 1 gallon white
    • 2 cups epsom salt or table salt
    • ¼ cup dawn dishwashing soap
    Instructions
    • Pour the vinegar, dishsoap, and epsom salt into a spray bottle. Shake up until combined.
    • Let settle for 2 minutes then spray the weeds! Make sure you soak the entire weed with the formula.
    • Let sit for a day then come back and see them dead!
    Notes

NOTE: Make sure you spray in the afternoon when the weeds are not damp from dew.
