How to Turn Mid Century Modern Into Farmhouse With Paint
Do you love the Farmhouse look but have old Mid Century Modern furniture kicking around? Change the look instantly with a little paint and a few simple little changes.
I was given this Mid Century Modern piece last summer and... well... what can I say?! It was in quite the state when I got it and being pressboard it really wasn't worth much as it was. I love the bones of the piece though and thought it would be beautiful transformed into my favourite Farmhouse style.
Before I could begin painting, it needed a few new bits to help give it that Farmhouse feel. I chose this hardware from D. Lawless and they generously donated it for this project. I love the those cup handles! They are gorgeous and were perfect for this piece.
I also knew I wanted some new legs for the hutch. The old ones were so spindly looking they didn't even look like they could support the weight of the piece. I chose these new, solid wood ones... curvy for the front and square for the back.
The legs were all stained with a coat of Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Curio before being painted so that they would match the darkness of the rest of the piece.
As for the paint makeover, it started with two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg. Duck Egg is a calming bluish-green that goes with just about anything. I absolutely love the colour of Duck Egg but, for this project, it needed a little something to give it some depth.
To make the Duck Egg look dimensional and aged, I added a wash of white overtop. The white added just a hint of colour that made the blue come alive.
To finish of the gorgeous Farmhouse transformation, the piece got it's new hardware and legs and a little light distressing around the edges.
I am completely in love with this piece now! Can you even believe it is the same piece? It will go beautifully with my Farmhouse planter that you can see here...
