it needs color.Use shepard hooks if you cannot plant in the ground and add colorful flowers.scallop out the area and install a garden edgewise a gazing ball for instant color, paint the birdbath and make it a focal point.

You might want to consider using some plastic friendly spray paint to make all your planter buckets look a little more cohesive. I recently did this to my multicolored thrift store planters and I’ve had some excellent results trying to make a cohesive collection to allow the colorful plants and flowers be the accent Pop of color.

Finally consider an application of a layer of mulch or pea gravel to tie in and “ground” the landscaped design area.

Two words to keep in mind,,,,"theme" and "unity". Right now you have neither, which makes your space look like a lawn sale instead of a garden. Also, in this case, less is definitely more!

What to do?

1. Pull everything out and reduce the number of items by at least half (give plants/cuttings to friends who will love you eternally for it)

2. Pick one color scheme and paint various tonal shades of this color throughout (tonal= depth of color...like soft pink vs hot pink)...on planters, lawn ornaments, hardware.

3. Make one or two items the focal point and plant around them. This could be a tree, gazing ball, bird bath, etc. THIS CENTRAL ITEM CAN BE ANOTHER COLOR THAT "pops".

4. Finally, create the appearance of neatness and restraint. Something I never understood is how people can use good taste and judgment inside their home but lose it once they dig in the garden!!! Gardening uses the same design principles!!!!

Agree with Fiddlehead that there is no cohesiveness to the area, and that it looks like a frantic jumble sale.

Agree also that the correct approach to refining the front yard is to take everything out, and start new with selective plants and containers, carefully and thoughtfully placed to yield best curb appeal.

Start by defining the space, outlining with landscaping edging blocks. If properly installed, they will have long durability and are low maintenance.
