As you can see, the fireplace is of stone. What's the easiest way to cover it? I want to hang a large clock there.

How about having a large canvas custom made to cover the hole with a simple frame around it. Paint it a color that you want and attach the clock to it.

I saw on Hometalk where someone bought a round table at the thrift shop, unscrew the legs and hardware underneath. She painted the round table top, distressed it some, bought the clock works and attacked them, then stenciled in Roman numerals the numbers. Looked beautiful. I think you can find one big enough to cover the square.

  • A large clock woukd look great there

    Hiiii 🏠

it will be great if you can put a large clock enough to cover the whole area.

If your clock is not big enough, attach It in a big wooden circle or any shape you like.

    2. You can paint the black area (or the wood above) with same Color as the stone. (If you can create the same shapes of your stones will look amazing.

    Enjoy the...journey. 😀

If you're not set on a clock, you could add shelves for knick knacks or photos. But I like Sandy's idea above about using horizontal boards as a background to your clock.
