My air conditioning doesn’t blow out any cool air but the outside unit fan is blowing. I do not hear the usual click for the system to start up anymore either. What are the possible problems??? Keep in mind the unit is 10+ years old.

    Could be as simple as needing to be recharged or it could be the compressor is gone. You will have to call a repair shop.

    Is the fan running on your furnace/blower unit inside? Could be the thermostat, fan relay, contactor, or transformer. Too many variables. Call a HVAC professional to service and isolate the problem.

    It could need freon. But most things that cause HVAC issues require a pro. I understand that they can be pricey but I am sure you need one to evaluate and test to determine exact issue. If you are not a member of www.nextdoor.com I highly recommend it. Good to keep up with whats going on in your neighborhood plus you can query your neighbors for good referrals. The app has a referral page that may have pro’s listed. Possible a pro in your vicinity will respond to your question. Hope this helps

    I also highly recommend nextdoor.com . This is not a paid service (there are paid ads). This website is made up of neighbors from your own area. You'll enter your zip code and the system will put you in the right group. With our group, we have people looking for some kind of contractor every week. Other neighbors will let them know if they like a specific one. If someone had a bad experience, they will put it out there. In our group, we also watch out for each other and let others know if there is something odd going on in the neighborhood. I personally am very glad I found nextdoor.com .

    Hi, Reba. I am going through this right now!! (I'm north of Houston and there is not living in this area without a/c!) My dad is coming over as I no longer have the meter to check some of the areas. I do suspect it's the capacitor on my condenser. (My house was built in '86 and the HVAC is original to the house!)

    I sent myself the link below and ended up making a document with the tips.

    I hope it helps! https://www.familyhandyman.com/heating-cooling/air-conditioner-repair/diy-air-conditioner-repair/view-all/

    OK dumb question from me buuuuttt, since you are not hearing a 'click' do you have your thermostat set to automatic and cool? If it is set to "fan on" the fan will blow but you will not get cold air, set the thermostat to 'auto' and cool and see if that helps.

    There are several reasons why your air conditioning is not working or fail to provide proper cooling, such as presence of faulty compressor. Apart from that, there are several other reasons too that might affect the proper functioning of your residential AC Unit;

    • Your AC unit air filter might be clogged or dirty.
    • It might be due to improper working of fan or fan motor of your AC.
    • Dirty condenser coil
    • Coolant problems
    • Defective thermostat
    • Very high temperature
    • An undersized air-conditioner

    If above-mentioned things working fine then you should contact ac repair services near you to resolve the issue.
