Putting a back splash next to the stove.

Should we put tile back splash next to the stove, on the left. Or just leave it blank.

I had this same situation and food would get splashed on the wall. A friend of mine installed a piece of plexiglass (just screwed into the wall) and that kept my wallpaper from getting ruined. It was easy to clean and you could still see the wallpaper!

A backsplash would be practical. You should take it around to the refrigerator though, not just the left wall for it to look right.

Most people leave it blank. Just as easy to wash as a back splash.

  • Love Kathy's suggestion! Mine was similar. I had a stove set up like that too at one time, we just used really good washable paint, but I believe some sort of back splash would make this area much easier to keep clean.

You can buy self adhesive wall treatmen. Cut it to size. Bring some of your personality to the space.

Years ago we did the same behind our stove and loved it, the Plexiglas was easy to clean and still showed the wall color. We couldn't decide on a back splash, and that was our compromise to make the wall cleanable.

    I would, yes.

Yes, definitely put it along side of the stove. Just remember to seal your backsplash after installing it. That makes it easier to keep clean.

(I did reply to you before, but the answer seems to have gotten lost in cyberspace so I'll try to remember everything I said the first time): I would pull out the stove and refrigerator. Tile down from the bottom of the wall cabinets. I don't think you need to tile all of the wall behind the appliances. If you can see the wall between the appliances and cabinets, just tile those areas down to the floor. I would wrap the tile around to the side wall at the same height as the bottom of the cabinets going all of the way to the floor. Tile about 6 inches or so, past the stove (depending on your tile). You can finish the exposed top and side of the tile with matching bullnose or Schluter. Schluter is available at home depot (I'm not sure if it's the Schluter brand or a different one). I got mine at a tile store. Tile stores don't usually tell you about it because it is a lot less than bullnose. It is a very clean modern look. I've used it in a bathroom and on a fireplace (attached pictures). Just remember to seal everything after you're finished to make it easier to keep clean. If you have anymore questions, just reply to this post and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Post some pictures after you're finished, I'd love to see them. Good luck with your project.
