Please don't do that.......if it gets wet, it will bleed......if a baby sits on it with a wet diaper....it will bleed................if your feet are sweaty and you walk on it it will bleed........use a good rug shampooer and wait until you can get new carpet......better yet ...get wood or ceramic floor.

Actually, you can dye carpet and it is permanent. It's also expensive and best done by a professional, it's not a DIY project for several reasons. Look online for a firm near you that does carpet dying, some carpet cleaning firms also dye but ask for references before you commit to it. You can end up with a big mess if you get someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

I owned a carpet and upholstery cleaning company in San Diego for several years.

Assuming you’ve already cleaned your rugs, Area rugs are very reasonable. Find one that makes you smile and works with your decor.
Get one large, rather than a few small rugs. You can even grab an indoor/outdoor rug for a change in texture.

I would price it out and see if it would be cheaper in the long run to replace the carpet. Even though it still looks okay, despite being faded, it is 10 years old, and the pad under it is probably getting tired, also.

It can but you need a professional to do it or it will be very splotchy. Easier to replace the carpet and probably less expensive.
