Easy Coffee Table Decor Doubles as Remote Control Tray

I had everything on hand for this already, except for the faux greenery. I use faux greenery indoors for my decor because I have a 'black thumb'. I can actually look at a real plant and cause it to lose any desire to live. I bought these faux plants on Amazon and I was really happy with the price and the quality of them. My first step was to take the glass out of the picture frame that I had bought at a yard sale over a year ago. I think I paid 6 dollars for it. I had never done anything with it because it is an odd size and not standard for most pictures. So, I decided to make it into a decorative tray.

I had found this discount fabric scrap in the bin at Walmart for 25 cents. It was a nice plain brown burlap color. I wrapped it around the cardboard backing of the picture frame and glued it down with a glue gun to the back.

I then used an image transfer technique to put a graphic onto the material, using coffee house transfer images from online. I printed them onto wax paper that was taped to a piece of cardstock. Then I cut them out, pressed them onto the fabric and ran over them with a store card.

Next, I worked on my pots for my plants. I had these cardboard seedling pots laying around from a homeschool project my son did years ago. I painted them with white acrylic paint. It went on in a very rustic way since these are a rough cardboard material. I just let the paint go on lightly, to give a distressed look, as opposed to trying to cover the entire thing with paint.

After the pots dried, I filled the bottoms with brown scrap paper I had (you could use newspaper, or any other filler, as well). Then I fit my plants into them and put moss on top. You can get all kinds of moss filler at the dollar store. I sometimes just grab some when I am in there to have on hand. Lastly, I just put the pots on my tray and put them on my coffee table!

This was an easy project to add something to my plain coffee table and give the remotes a home!
