Dark water rings on maple cobbler's bench that had been sealed with linseed oil (?) over 50 years ago. How do you get them out?

Have you tried mayonnaise? Rub it in liberally!

The dark rings may only be in the linseed oil. Use mineral spirits and remove the oil. If the stain is in the wood after the oil is removed, lightly sand out using a fine grit paper. Then go back over the surface with another layer of linseed oil. Good luck.

Hi Karen, I did a bit of research on this topic and this is what I learned: You could make a paste of olive oil and salt. Let it set on damaged wood for one hour. Then wipe it up. The salt will pull out any moisture and the olive oil will replenish the wood. I also read that toothpaste will remove rings on wood but not sure with the age of your damaged wood. I hope this helps you. Best of luck.
