I know you said other than landscaping, but that's the biggest problem. I would start with a clean slate. Remove everything except what you absolutely love. Get rid of the vines growing up your house. They are bad for the siding and very invasive. They will find a way into your house and destroy the structure.

Then I would use patio pavers to make the walkway wider. Use the same pavers to make a nice seating area to the left or, if it's in the budget, put in a nice welcoming porch. Get some colorful chairs and maybe an umbrella. Make the garden on the right bigger. Put in some evergreens and flowering shrubs ( but not to close to the foundation). Fill in around them with flowers.

Your grass also needs some work, you could either plant seed and use a weed and feed or put down sod.

I can't see the front door. You might want to paint it a red other some other color to make it stand out. Put a light beside the front door. I think that's an air vent near the roof. If it is, you could put in a more decorative one. This website has quite a few to choose from.

    Thanks for the picture.

You are lucky to have such large windows for the size of the house. The front certainly does have potential, but I agree that it needs some help.

Right now, it looks very frantic and messy. There is way too much going on with different kinds of plants. They are competing with each other and no one is winning.

1/ Remove all the single pots and other stuff that is in front of the left side. They are making the house and yard look uncoordinated and junky.

2/ Anything growing close to the house is inviting water seepage problems, so they should also be removed. As windows are 'the eyes of house' anything growing higher than, or in front of the window glass should also be removed.

3/ I would suggest that you install window boxes under each window, the same width as each window. This would allow opportunity to grow a few selected flowers that bloom pretty colors, and would keep the gardening aspect limited and contained. Go for quality/color not quantity.

4/ The front door is very flat looking. Adding a small portico in a triangular shape to echo the lines of the roof would add needed dimension and focus.

5/ If your budget permits, plan also to add simple white railings on either side of the steps. These would visually connect the house to the yard and add make the front step area seem larger.

All good suggestions...Is this near water? I love the muted aqua colour of your siding!
