Hosta and ferns should work, depending on how much freezing weather and snow you get. You could also try some miniature evergreens, depending on the size of your porch.

Go to your local Greenhouse or Nursery and tell them you are looking for shade plants. Examples are begonias and impatience, if you are looking for flowering plants.

Go to your local plant nursery. Most plants under their shade awning will work in pots on a porch. If you go there, you will be able to see the plants before you buy them to see what you like.

Annual flowers like impatiens, coleus, and some begonias would do well. Houseplants like defenbacchia, philodendron, bridal veil, african violets would work, but need to be brought inside if you have cold winters.
