It has a coating from fusible interfacing. It doesn’t glide over fabric; it doesn’t iron.

Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the COOL metal face. While still wet, sprinkle the baking soda on and scrub with an old toothbrush. Spritz with vinegar. Wipe down with cloth.
You want to be careful not to scratch the sole of the iron... some have a Teflon type of coating... and if not... any scratches will collect starch and other residues... that will burn onto the sole plate of the iron. Use a product like CLR or white vinegar to remove water deposits...make sure the iron is unplugged.. and set sole plate down.. in a SHALLOW pan of the CLR or Vinegar... let set for at least 30 minutes and rinse well... for stuck on starch etc... try heating the iron to a medium steam setting.... dampen a terry cloth towel (an old one) in white vinegar... and "iron" using as much pressure as you can.... ... you can also try a Magic Eraser on a COLD iron.... keep at it until the iron is clean... then rinse well.
NOTE: To avoid mineral deposits in and on my iron... I use water from my refrigerator water dispenser... I put it in a "barbecue" sauce dispenser bottle with a long pointy tip ($1.88 at Walmart, barbecue dept.) This makes it really easy to fill the iron, when needed.

Add some vinegar to the water and let it steam. Keep pressing the steam button onto an old cloth until it is clear and then drain the iron and refill with fresh water, let steam and then empty again.
I used the instructions in the link, the baking soda /water paste worked great! https://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/cleaning/laundry/clean-iron
