Have you tried Marine varnish or spar varnish. We used that on a set of wooden steps and it held up very well.
Home Depot can tint stain any color - my deck is royal blue
The deck product I use is Clark Armstrong. It is only sold in some areas of the United States but you can order it online. It is far superior to any product I have purchased in large box stores--and I have tried EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. It is a linseed product that soaks into the wood. It will never peel and only needs to be redone about every 3 to 4 years. I have FINALLY found the answer to the constant battle of deck products that never seem to perform well and give me nothing but grief. Armstrong Clark is the BEST.
