You would either need to reweave the seat, or you could do upholstered seats instead. You would cut a piece of plywood to fit the chair and add foam and fabric. Here is a good link with options:

Removing the seats should be easy. They’re likely screwed on from the underside or the back.

You have instructions above for rushing the seats. Or get some fabric or good-quality leather-look vinyl and some good foam from Joanne or Michaels for your seat. Pinterest for advice and specific video instructions on easiest way to upholster stool seat. I’d get a good workroom stapler (great to have around).

If you want to stick to the same style and not a cushion seat, you can purchase leather seconds or firsts (obviously seconds are less expensive) from Tandy Leather (online website). Measure your width and depth of your seat and using a rotary cutter cut strips to wrap around the front to back undersides as well as side to side undersides then weave your seat with leather strips. Attach with upholstery tacks/ nails to the underside of the seat support bars.

You could just add a cushion with ties at the corners.

From the one photo that you posted, doesn't show if the rope is wound completely around the wooden pieces of the chair, (or if the wrapped rope is just sitting in the frame.) If so, then it will all have to be cut off before being replaced with another new seat material.

The style of replacement seat that would be most suitable will depend on what the structure is on the bottom of the seat. Could you post another photo please of the underside of the existing seat so we can see what you have to work with?

Hi Barbara, hope this helps you out. You can choose to redo the straw twine, or replace it with a piece of plywood cut to size and padded. You can chalk paint the chairs a favorite color as well.
