So, here in Minnesota, once the snow melts, spring cleaning begins... and I found this treasure on the end of someone's driveway. It just amazes me what some people throw away. I guess that's where the saying comes from, someone else's junk is someone's treasure. It's an old but sturdy side table. I just knew I could use this in my house somewhere... and hey, free for the taking! I had bought some chalk paint on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $2. Hope you like it.
Here is the table as is... no major scratches or dents. But looked like they had tried to re-stain it at some point. Still needs help!
Another angle of the beginning....
My $2 chalk paint on clearance from Hobby Lobby...I believe regular price was $9.00 for this. I picked it up awhile ago knowing that i would use it at some point as I loved the color.
First I cleaned the table off with just soap and water And then let it air dry.
Next took the paint and put in Bowl and painted on the blue chalk paint. Making sure to coat it well and everything painted.
After chalk paint was dry I applied a brown antique wax that I had. I have used it one 3 project, bought from Walmart for $6.00. You paint small areas with the wax then immediately wipe with a clean cloth. Do this over the whole project just small areas at a time. I used an old white tshirt of my husbands that I cut up into small squares.
Finished project with wax applied.
Another angle of project after wax done.
I decided that being I was going to use as a side table and my family would be putting wet items or food on it, I wanted alittle more protection. I then used some old polyurethane over the whole project. I actually liked it with this applied as it made it shiny.
Project in its new home. Took no time at all and this would have ended up in the garbage... it now has a new life with us.
