Rustoleum has a great spray paint in several colors and metal colors that ate super easy to use and look great. Just wipe the bases down and dry them, then rough them up a little with fine sandpaper or emory cloth and wipe them off again . Tape off with painters tape anything that you don't want painted and spray two or three light coats of paint. letting them dry in between. You can spray them with a finish coat just to make sure they don't get scratched. Then find a pretty shade and you are in business.

The best idea for a plain lamp shade is to buy these appliqués online, only cost a few bucks each. They have iron on or sew on. Then you can paint the base to match. I took these pics off the internet.
