    what I use is a 'mantra' -- If you don't use it every day, put it away' ... that's fine, until you run out of room to put things ... then evaluate your use/need for the items;

    seriously sentimental value - carefully pack and protect and put in appropriate storage boxes;

    Seasonal items; Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter -- and their accompanying holidays. Organize and pack away in marked boxes * I really like the clean storage bins with snap on lids * .. when going thru all these items - do it by room; Kitchen / Bath / Bedrooms / Living areas. Take your time.. if you haven't used/worn it in 6 months, a year, etc., you don't really need it.

    take one room at a time, look at your things objectively...does it have a use, does it bring you joy, have you used it in the past 6 months, is it in good shape...if the answer to these questions is no, then decide to toss or donate it. Once the decision is made to get it out of your home, do so as quickly as possible (so that you don’t change your mind) then go onto the next space/room

    Start with several boxes, and put like things together. Next, put these things in separate baskets around the house. Ex. a basket for mail, one for magizines, make up ones for certain categories , this will avoid clutter.
