I was shopping at one of my favorite stores, Hobby Lobby. And in the clearance area, I noticed this suitcase. The design is not what I liked or even would fit in my home... but the $6.50 price tag had me Interested. Regular price was $69! I could resist buying it at this discount. I thought about all the possibilities that I could use this for.
Now I know people will be upset that I painted over the design etc. Even my daughter was like no, don't paint it. But for me the colors go no where in my house at all.
enjoy my easy make over of this suitcase. Paint from Walmart and Antique wax to create this great look that will look great in my bedroom... Enjoy.
Beginning suitcase. Like I said perfect new shape and only $6.50! But the design, the blue, just would not work in my house. Gathered supplies, paint brush acrylic paint and antique wax. Also had towel scrapes to wipe off wax in final step.
To show that I paid only $6.50 for this suitcase. And up close of the paint and wax I use. Paint was bought at Walmart for $2.96...
started painting with the maroon (looked more red in pictures). Covered the whole suitcase.
Here's a picture of the suitcase all painted and allowing to dry for a couple of hours. The suitcase was covered in a fabric so paint took alittle longer to dry.
Here is the side panel finished with wax on it.
You brush on the antique wax, brown, and then wipe off with the towel scrap.
You can see some of the wax that you wipe off with towel scrap. Enough to give slight brown coloring.
Did this the whole way through the suitcase.
This is a finished product. Love the way it turned out... works perfectly in my bedroom.
Another picture of the finished product. For under $10 I have this great suitcase that will act as a secret storage...shhh.
