I have buckets of shells from all our travels to Mexico. That is one of our favorite activities to do while on vacation. But, what to do with all these shells! Then my mom came over and brought 10 glass blocks she had bought me from Menards. I looked at the box and thought what am I going to do with all these glass blocks. And they are heavy!
i finally figured out what to do with both!
I also used a new technique that I saw online. Instead of paying a fortune for vinyl lettering or sayings (I do not have a cricut machine but it's on my wish list). You take a regular piece of paper and print using your printer the letters or words you want to use. Then packing tape and water makes easy transfers! See below for directions.
gather all items needed. Packing tape, paper with sayings, shells, glass block.
Cut out your words and apply packing tape.
Rub hard, firm pressure to get tape to stick.
All my pieces done and ready for water.
Place in bowl with warm water. Let soak for 5 minutes.
After that time rub off the paper that leaves only the tape with the words onnot. Place off to the side and let dry. The stickiness of the tape comes back once dry.
In the mean time I took off cap from glass block and put packing tape over the holes invade sand is still on the shells and I don't want this all over my cabinet.
Filled with variety of shells.
After tape dry and sticky again, I placed on the glass block. Then rub on hard and slowly pull off and words are on the block and not in the tape anymore. Amazing and super easy to do!
The lettering was lighter than I wanted but you get it idea...
Decided to add ribbon around the edge of the block. Used glue gun to apply and keep it stuck on there.
Totally finish glass block filled with shells and lettering on. I love thes! So easy and wonderful way to view these great shells that hold such fun memories...

As kids, we used to do the transfers with Scotch tape and comic strips. I had forgotten all about it. And I never knew the glass blocks had caps on them. I’ve never looked that closely. This is a really classy job. ☺️

This is so cute! I have tons of shells - halfheartedly looking for projects even though trying to finish others. Thank you!
