I recently took a 4 day carpentry workshop in Asheville, NC for women. The first day was focused on tools, powertools and safety. The next two days were spent in an actual primitive construction site, building a tiny home/sleeping shelter and the last day we chose a project of our own to design, build, and take home.
I found an inspiration photo of the basic rustic table on Pinterest for my design. I drew out the design on paper, figured out how big I wanted it and what size boards to use as well as screws. Went to the lumber store and got my supplies.
I cut my wood to the proper sizes and started constructing my table, upside down on the floor. Attaching the legs, I had to create a frame under the top to hold the top boards together and the legs to the base. I used 2" screws to attach everything.
Here's my table - all finished and ready to be sanded, stained, painted. You can see on my face how happy I am to have completed this project, which took about 4 hours.
After sanding the wood, I stained the top with this dark stain and poly in one. When it dried, I lightly sanded with a fine sanding block and put on another coat. The shade was Bombay Mahogany - in a gloss finish.
For the base and legs of the table - I use Velvet Finishes paint. I love the chalk-like paint that covers well and does not require any sealer. The shade is white (or minimalistic as they call it).
The end result is a farmhouse-style end table that I designed and built myself - so proud of it!
