I want to change the areas above the cabinets into cabinets.
I'm replacing the old cabinets with new cabinets, also I want to make the area above the cabinets into small cabinets matching the new ones. Any tips, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. The picture is what the cabinets currently look likeicon

Sorry but I don't think your picture posted.

  • First you need to know what is running through the bulkhead to see if that is even possible. Is this a DIY or do you have a contractor?

If it were my house, I would see if removing the bulkhead is a possibility, then if so, order cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling for a cleaner appearance.

I'm doing the work myself. Agree about extra tall cabinets looking cleaner but I got a good deal on original size cabinets.

You will have to make sure that the top row of cabinets are very level. Don't simply butt them against the ceiling as it is most likely uneven. Snap a level line and start hanging.

Tonia is right if you plan to make the tops all one level. Having an occasional cabinet several inches above the other and trimming out the top (front and side ) is an alternative look.
