I spray the perimeter of my property and base of my house once a month with vinegar, but I do not live in the woods. It does help. I have a bunch of cats and dogs - so for me every little bit is a good thing.
Amazon sells a concentrate called Conquer you mix in a sprayer and spray over your yard. It's animal/human safe once it dries completely. Kills ticks, fleas, ants, flies, etc. Good product!
One big thing you can do to keep the tick population low is to keep all grass mowed. I have found that free range chickens also keep the tick numbers down.
Hi Carol. I am in WI and we have a big tick problem. I use diatomaceous earth. It is a powder made of crushed shells and coral. Any insect with a exoskeleton that comes in contact with it gets little cuts which causes them to dehydrate and die. There is a special powder spreader you can use to apply but I just used my spreader for fertilizer and grass seed. It is all organic and safe for kids and animals. Keeping leaves and yard debris cleaned up in fall helps to. If you can afford it you could lay a gravel boarder around the woods. Ticks won't cross that. Wish you luck. I hate those ticks!
