My children and I have fond memories of my grandmother in her garden with a Monarch Butterfly fluttering about. Can you please share how to attract them and how to provide what they need to have to thrive in my garden?

    dill plants & milkweed

Lots of plants are marked butterfly friendly these days. Your garden center employees should be able to point out great butterfly attractants.

Many flowers — especially native plants — are terrific sources of nectar for monarch butterflies, but milkweed leaves are the only food monarch caterpillars eat. Monarchs butterflies lay their eggs on milkweed plants so the tiny caterpillars will have access to food the moment they hatch.

They love milkweed, butterfly weed, brightly colored plants. Make sure you have a water source, like a large shallow bowl with a few rocks that the butterflies can land on to drink. Have a shaded area close.
