Do you have pictures, and a basic idea of what/how you want to update?
Different advice from where? If you really need help, have a consult with an interior designer to help you sort out the details. Or just go with your gut, it is your house, if you like it, then it works!
Easy updates are paint, change grout color in tile, frame builder mirror, add mosaic tile along counter top (they even have self-stick tile!. Go with what you love and it will turn out just fine!
