Plastic forks with tines up and handle poked into the dirt.
Sprinkle Blood Meal around the plants. They do not like the smell.
I transplanted an iris yesterday....went out today and it is out of the ground, laying on its side...wilted....lol. I cut the top off, replanted the blub, watered it and put a small plastic flower pot over it. Those little buggers (squirrels) are a real pest. If it grows, fine...if not...I have another one to put there. I have put small pieces of plastic pipe in my flower boxes to discourage the squirrels from digging.....they can't get enough room to dig.
You can purchase Blood Meal at your local hardware of plant nursery. Sprinkle some just inside the rim of the pot. It will not hurt the plants
