Screen porch and "catio"

We would like to build a screened-in porch and "catio"...on a budget. The porch will be on short piers and we need to figure out how to screen it in while making it "cat proof" at the same time (i.e. we don't want them to be able to rip out sections of the screens!). We've thought about using poultry wire or vinyl lattice panels, but haven't come up with a good solution yet. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated (by us AND the cats!).

Wood-framed hog wire fencing can be gorgeous. Check it out on Google and Pinterest.

Depending on how good they are at jumping, would determine the height of this, then regular screening for bugs on the outside.

Thanks for the tip! This stuff looks good, but kind of short. HOWEVER, we may be able to make wood-framed panels, with hog wire on one side and screen on the other!

I agree with Jcraw on the framed hog wire. I'll just add to put bug screening on the outside of the wire and I'd use the framed hog wire ceiling to floor. Some of the most expensive homes are now using that look for fencing. After you finish, pictures, please!

Thanks for your reply, Bijous_2010! That's what I was thinking- putting the screen on the outside to "cat proof" it. I did, however, find out that "Hog" wire isn't the thing to use since the openings in the wire are kind of "cat sized", at 4" x 8". There are alternatives available with smaller openings though.

    Sounds great
