Make a plan. Decide what color you would like to paint your cabinets and purchase the best paint you can afford. Depending on the current finish of your cabinets and the materials they are made of you may need to sand a lot or a little. Generally it is easiest to remove the doors and the hardware, keeping the screws and hardware in a plastic bag. Depending on the finish you want now is the time to sand (or not) the cabinet framing and all the surfaces you plan to paint. Drawer fronts can be removed or left on. An easy way to paint the drawer fronts if you don't want to remove the fronts, is to lay them on your counter top with the fronts hanging off the edge and paint them there. Doors can be laid out flat on a floor protected with newspaper, plastic, or drop cloth. If you're going to paint both sides of the doors, I suggest painting the back side first. Allow surfaces to dry well before painting a second or third coat (if necessary). New hardware or hardware if you've not had it before will finish the reno. Most important is to not be in a hurry and take your time and enjoy the process so your hard work will last and look wonderful. We are currently redoing my bathroom cabinetry in a beautiful fushia! It is taking more coats than we expected even though we are using $50/gallon paint, but it will be worth it in the end. Just bought "blingy" crystal knobs on 1/2 sale at Hobby Lobby that will be the jewelry for this project. We removed the drawer fronts and are painting both front an d back of drawers and doors to make it be like a pro job.
