Can you recaulk over the caulking around window?

Wonder if you can caulk over the caulking that is already on the seal of the windows outside? I have 21 windows in my home...yes, 21. I can't afford to pay anyone to remove the old caulking and put new on them at this time. I don't have the energy to do them all right now. So I thought I'd remove a few, but then do the rest overtop of what is there. Then, as I feel able, to remove all from a window or two and replace the caulking. Thanks for all suggestions.

Putting new caulk over the old stuff... is kink of like putting a new carpet over an old stinky one.... it just will NOT get the job done.... remove all the old caulk and apply the new stuff

Old caulk needs to be removed or the new will fail sooner than later. A much bigger job removing layers of caulk.

before I purchased my new windows a few years back, Lowe's had a clear cocking that we used to use in the winter. We would seal the windows just before winter, and when spring came, this cocking can very easily be pealed off. Do not know the name of t he cocking but was purchased in the paint section. Remember the cocking being very stringy and pealing it off the windows. Once used, you cannot open your window unless you go outside and peal this cocking off. So, if you are looking to just keeping the cold out during the course of t he winter, check into this.

If you are talking about the area between the glass and the frame, it is not caulking, but glazing compound. You have to remove the old, clean the area with linseed oil and re glaze. The glazing compound holds the glass in and seals. This is the correct way.
