Ideas for upstairs deck shade

I can't afford one of those wonderful roll out awnings and I'm up two flights so umbrellas work for just so long and it would take many to cover the deck. I find I have little time out on the deck because it gets so hot here. Any ideas?

You can attach a shade sail
A sun sail may be your answer. Available on Ebay, Amazon or big box hardware. Square or triangle. Attach to nearby wall or upright structure. Good luck

I agree! Shade sails are a great solution. Some creative people nave even made their own out of canvas drop cloths, muslin fabric. They also look great.
Don't know how much wind they can handle. But they can be tightened to withstand a quite amount of wind.
leave out for the season. You may need to remove if severe storm. Good luck
