It can be painted but you would need real professional help with getting the right paint or probably just sandblasting it would lighten it a lot without painting it. There are companies that do the sandblasting and it usually takes a couple of days to do a building your size. Good Luck.

That’s a really beautiful home. It can be painted but before you go to that expense (and future maintenance you don’t have now) maybe you should consider painting your door and sidelights a brighter color and adding some more colorful landscaping to brighten things up. Good luck.

I think pruning the large trees back would bring in a ton of natural light and would be a great start. Large, old trees can be so amazing but they do cast lots of shade and (dare I say) gloom??

You should look up “German smear” Chip Gaines did to a house on Fixer Upper a few years ago. I fell in love and hope to do my fireplace with the technique. You have a big house so would have to hire someone , but doable!

Painted brick can take upkeep. I’d add color with shutters and new door color.

You do have a lovely home. I would consider painting the door and possibly add shutters to the upper windows the same color. Good Luck!

Paint the door and windows a nice bright colour.

I love the look of "white washed" brick. It has has the look of "old brick". go with a pro, that's a lot of surface to cover!

It's a lovely house. Don't paint it--you will eventually regret it when it becomes a costly maintenance headache. I know, having once lived in a painted brick home.

Concentrate instead on lightening the entrance, painting the door a bright color, pots of pretty flowers on the steps, and perhaps redo the dark, evergreen landscaping.

Once you start painting, you have to keep it up. Home is lovely now. I agree with Ellis about how to bring in color.

They did a technique on Fixer Upper that looked great and changed the house dramatically. Check out their web site and do a search.
