I have gutters on my home and I am wondering why I need them.

My gutters seem to cause more damage than good. There were not maintained well before we bought the home and were sagging. It took me and a friend three days to take down 30 feet of gutter and replace rotted fascia boards. I see other areas around the home where the gutters are likely in a similar situation. Why do I need gutters? I am on a slab with sandy loam soil that drains well. They seem like more of an added maintenance item for me. I would prefer to get rid of them when the house gets its next roof in another 10 years.
